Campaign signs prohibited within 300 feet of an absentee voting site

Last week, Tim Box, Deputy Commissioner of Elections, notified candidates of a campaign sign prohibition at LCW; however, sometimes friends and family are unaware of the prohibition so I’m posting it here so it can reach a wider audience.

Although technically, we cannot prohibit campaign signs on private property, we can prohibit parked cars with campaign signs on the parking spaces which the County leases and those spaces are indicated on the map link below.

Here’s the email from Tim Box.  As he indicates, “Your cooperation is appreciated”.

Subject: parking vehicles with campaign signs during absentee voting

Dear Candidates,

I am writing to remind you that campaign signs are prohibited within 300 feet of any outside door affording access to an absentee voting site. This prohibition includes campaign signs on vehicles.

Election Services has created a map of the LCW (Linn County West) parking lots to illustrate where parking is not allowed if you have a campaign sign on your vehicle.  Please review the attached map and let me know if you have any questions.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Thank you,

Tim Box – Deputy Commissioner of Elections  319-892-5300
